KDOT and the City of Manhattan will begin an improvement project at the College Avenue/Claflin Road intersection in Manhattan on Monday, June 19. The project will include new traffic signals, sidewalks, ramps, curbs and gutter at the intersection.
Work will require College Avenue south of Claflin Road to be closed to traffic with motorists following a signed detour on Sunset Avenue, Anderson Avenue and Westport Drive. Traffic on Claflin Road as well as on College Avenue north of Claflin Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions with 10.5-foot width restrictions.
Work will take place on weekdays and Saturdays. Motorists should expect some delays and use alternate routes if possible.
The project is expected to be completed in late August, weather permitting. Phillips Southern Electric Company of Wichita is the contractor on the $138,000 project.
Motorists are asked to use extra caution in the work zone area.
