Around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday the Manhattan Fire Department responded to a semi-truck fire at 5th St. and El Paso Lane in Manhattan.
According to Deputy Chief Ryan Almes, when crews arrived smoke and fire was visible near the cab of the truck. Crews extinguished the flames in about ten minutes. The cause of the fire is believed to be a refrigeration unit on the trailer of the truck overheated.
The semi-truck had been parked, and the driver was not in the truck during the fire. It is owned by Deans Foods out of Nebraska. Total fire loss is estimated at $151,000. Another semi-truck parked approximately 8 ft. away reported damage totaling $1,000 due to the fire.
