The two fatality victims in an early Monday morning accident on K-18 Highway near Manhattan have been identified by the Kansas Highway Patrol. They were Elizabeth Young, 31, of White City and Micheal Stanley, 32, of Ogden.
They were westbound just before 3 a.m. when their car was struck head on by an eastbound pickup truck driven by Miles Theurer, 23 of Wellington, Kansas. Theurer and a passenger Andrew Mason, of Monument, Colorado were taken to Mercy Hospital in Manhattan for treatment. Two other passengers Joseph Iliff, 25, of Manhattan and Lance Schmidt, 23, of Monroe, Nebraska were transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
KHP reported the pickup driven by Theurer was eastbound in the westbound lanes at the time of the accident, while the car driven by Elizabeth Young was westbound and was hit head on by the first vehicle.
The accident happened about 2:50 a.m. The highway was closed for about six and a half hours while authorities worked at the scene.
